How to interpret the numbers
The table is useful for academic comparison, but it is not an official Quebec government ranking and should not be treated as a complete measure of school quality.
Data basis
The overall rating draws heavily on standardized results in French, English, mathematics and science, together with selected student-progress indicators.
What it can show
It can help families identify schools with consistently strong measured academic results and compare changes over time.
What it cannot show
It does not fully measure school climate, teaching relationships, student well-being, special support, program fit or admissions accessibility.

Beyond the table
Questions that matter more than one ranking position
A difference of a few tenths on a rating does not tell you whether a child will feel supported, challenged and able to sustain the daily demands of a particular school.
Language fit
Can the student learn confidently in the school’s principal language?
Program fit
Does the school offer the academic, arts, sports or enrichment pathway the student needs?
Admission realism
Do current grades and skills support a realistic application strategy?
Student support
What academic, language and learning-support services are available?
Daily commute
Will travel time leave enough energy for study, activities and family life?
School environment
Does the teaching culture and level of pressure suit the student’s personality?

School ranking FAQ
Is this an official Quebec government ranking?
No. The table uses the Fraser Institute’s 2025 report. Quebec government education dashboards provide official indicators, but the government does not present this page’s overall ranking.
Why do several schools share the same rank?
Schools with the same overall rating may be tied. The provincial rank therefore does not always advance by one position from one row to the next.
Should private and public schools be compared directly?
Use caution. Admissions selection, student populations, program structures and access rules differ. Compare similar school types and examine more than the overall score.
Does a 10.0 score guarantee admission or future success?
No. It describes selected measured outcomes for a particular academic year. Admission depends on each school’s process, and student success depends on fit, effort, support and many other factors.
How early should preparation begin?
Families can begin researching in Grade 4. Students targeting competitive Sec 1 admission often benefit from assessment and structured preparation during Grade 5 and the following summer.
